Robert Douglas Hunter

Robert Douglas Hunter’s distinguished career has spanned more than fifty years. He is an honor graduate of Vesper George School of Art in Boston, where in 1950 he became an instructor and remained on faculty until 1983. Mr. Hunter also served as a staff member at the Worcester Art Museum. Like Edmund Tarbell, Frank Benson, R.H. Ives Gammell and Aldro Hibbard, Hunter has also served as president of the Guild of Boston Artists. Hunter is another link in what art historians consider to be and unbroken chain of master to pupil dating back more than 160 years, passing from Paul Delaroche to Jean-Leon Gerome to William Paxton to R.H. Ives Gammell to Hunter. Robert Douglas Hunter’s work can be found in numerous public and private collections internationally. As tribute to this great artist, a new permanent gallery at the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis, Massachusetts has been named in his honor.
