Kyle James Stevens

Kyle James Stevens is a classically trained artist currently residing in Connecticut. He is a native of Dallas, Texas and made his move to New York in 1987. Kyle studied with David Leffel and other well known artists at the Art Students League in New York. He has been featured in several national publications including “American Artist Magazine” and “The Artist Magazine.” Kyle has won prestigious national awards for a number of his paintings.

The style in which Kyle paints and draws is directly influenced by the 17th century Old Masters, such as Velasquez, Ribera, Vermeer and in particular Rembrandt. The use of “chiaroscuro” lighting in Kyle’s work is characteristic of the Baroque style of this period. While the subjects in Kyle’s paintings and drawings range from classical to surreal, he always adheres to the principles of his classical training.

Kyle’s Classical paintings and drawings incorporate still lifes, figurative and portraits. Kyle has painted and drawn primarily still lifes and nudes throughout his career. His current focus is on the figurative. Many of Kyle’s works have been exhibited in New York, San Francisco and New Mexico galleries. Presently, you will find his classical works at Willoughby Fine Art Gallery in Martha’s Vineyard.

Kyle Stevens operates in a dimension of mind and imagination, but it is not The Twilight Zone. Kyle’s zone is his personal domain, a place where time ceases to exist and imagination is the fuel for creativity. The classical mastery of technique with which he executes his paintings is at a level that few others attain. There is absolutely nothing ordinary about Kyle Steven’s approach to painting. His thirst for knowledge pertaining to his craft is insatiable and the knowledge gained is encyclopedic. Kyle’s still life paintings are breathtaking, his portrait commissions classical and his figurative works whether surreal or mythological are both intriguing and thought provoking. In summation the word brilliant will suffice.
